CLIVUS — Context Study
A fine turquoise incision cutting through the lower third of the canvas interrupts the transition from ocher to crimson red, establishing the visual structure of the work. On this 80 by 130 cm surface, acrylic and oil are layered through scraping and glazes, giving a dense, mineral quality to the canvas. The vertical plane is segmented by chromatic slopes where a central block of cobalt blue offers containment against the warmth of the outer fields. Three small light-blue rectangles are arranged in isolation across these inclines, establishing relations of distance and weight that suggest a contained gravity within the SITUS series. Resting directly on the pine floorboards of a bright studio, the three-centimeter-thick stretcher frame gains a grounded physical presence. The composition completes its physical path at the lower edge of the support, where accumulated pigment meets the grain of the wood.
