Close-up view of the lower right corner of the abstract painting "STRATA V — QUINQUE". The canvas, in ocher and yellow tones, shows visible textures and incised lines extending to the side edge. The side edge is painted, revealing the canvas thickness and casting a subtle shadow on the adjacent light gray textured wall.
The painted side edge of Maurizio Valch's "STRATA V — QUINQUE" shows the extension of ocher and yellow pigment. This detail reveals incisions and texture, highlighting the physical presence of the canvas against the wall.

QUINQUE — Context Study

"STRATA V — QUINQUE" presents a vertical composition marked by the contrast between two chromatic fields. The upper section, in deep and earthy ochers, generates an atmosphere of contained density, opposed to the vibrant yellow lower strip. An undulating and dark, non-linear horizon snakes across the canvas, organically dividing these areas with subtle tension.

The ocher surface shows detailed material work with layers of acrylic and oil, glazes, and impastos that suggest sedimentation. Fine, clear lines, incised or scraped, diagonally cross this expanse. Small rectangular blocks, like elemental presences, are anchored on these lines and the horizon, adding a subtle three-dimensionality.

This combination of large color expanses and fine details creates a contained depth, a stratified and dense space. The asymmetrical balance between the visual weight of the ocher and the luminosity of the yellow, together with the distribution of the blocks, imbues the work with a silent and contemplative spatial presence. "STRATA V — QUINQUE," from the STRATA series, reinterprets territory as a surface of origin where matter, memory, and transformation intertwine.
