GRADUS — Context Study
Diffuse natural light descending from a large side window falls evenly across the scene, revealing the rustic grain and knots of the wooden floorboards. This timber grid and the exposed metal beams framing the industrial space accentuate the vertical format of the canvas, establishing a dialogue of proportions with the clean-lined furniture arranged along the edges. The visual journey begins at the left edge of the surface, where the textured density of the reddish-orange block meets the sharpness of a fine yellow incision. From this border, attention shifts horizontally across the suspended white lines that hold two bright red quadrants in the center of the composition. Finally, the eye returns to the entire canvas, where built-up layers of oil and acrylic merge into a dense, deep cobalt blue, immersing the surrounding environment in a temperate silence and sober, material quiet.
