GRADUS — Context Study
The matte texture of the oil and acrylic on canvas becomes apparent under the skylight, where the weave of the fabric catches the light unevenly. Centered on the imposing exposed brick wall, the vertical painting organizes the double-height industrial space around its color fields. The vast plane of cobalt blue establishes a zone of visual pause, contrasting with the geometric lines of the metal pillars and the open expanse of the wooden floor. On the surface, the arrangement of thin white lines and red quadrants traces a division that reorders the proportions of the room. This structure, defining thresholds without limiting their meaning, acts as an organizing plane where emptiness and matter find balance. Finally, the eye returns to the left edge, where the dense impasto of the rust-colored block and its bright yellow profile draw attention back to the physical, tactile texture of the paint.
