GRADUS — Context Study
Areas of stillness and the expansive negative space of the background structure the point of departure in this large plane of cobalt blue. Upon close inspection, a fine, bright yellow filament runs along the edge of the rust-orange vertical band on the left. From this detail, the composition expands toward the center, where thin white lines and two red blocks define a structure of geometric tensions and abstract thresholds. Leaning on the polished concrete floor of an industrial loft, in front of an exposed brick column, the 120 by 160-centimeter painting asserts a contained physical presence. Natural light from the large windows reveals the technical layerings of oil and acrylic, creating an atmosphere of sober calm that ultimately draws the eye back to those silent, unmarked areas.
