FISSURA — Context Study
From a close, lateral perspective, the surface of STRATA XIII — FISSURA presents with palpable material density. A dominant field of deep crimson, covering much of the visible plane, reveals subtle tonal variations and the canvas weave beneath layers of acrylic and oil. Towards the upper half, a vibrant turquoise blue rectangular block inserts with defined contours, its rough, textured impasto creating a tactile and chromatic contrast. Subtler reddish glazes are visible, mingling with the turquoise. Fine, light-toned incised lines traverse the crimson field in slightly irregular horizontal strokes, suggesting divisions or thresholds within the surface. These lines continue onto the painting's edge, emphasizing its three-dimensional quality. In the lower right, a small reddish rectangular block, resting on a compact black form, establishes another visual anchor, balancing the composition. The interplay of these defined geometric forms and incisions against a deep-colored background constructs a visual space evoking contained tension and material stratification.
