CUSTODES — Context Study

In CUSTODES, the gaze initially settles on the contained expanse of its color fields. A pale blue-gray upper band and the vast central orange plane offer an apparent stillness, where pigment unfolds in subtle layers of acrylic and oil. This materiality becomes evident in the variations of glazes and impasto that build the surface. In the lower field of reddish tones, a series of fine linear incisions, reminiscent of a staircase, are revealed as marks of a process or journey. Higher up, the pale band presents subtle incised graphic marks. From this material foundation, angular, monolithic forms in deep blue, dark green, and black project forcefully upwards. Their volume is perceived through the accumulation of pigment and scraping.
