COACTUS — Context Study
The uniform grid of the canvas weave forms the tactile foundation that shifts as it folds over the edge of the stretcher. Positioned on a sober, dark stone support in a low-light environment, the eighty-by-one-hundred-and-twenty-centimeter piece makes its three-centimeter depth clear, engaging directly with the scale of the room. The visual journey begins at this lower edge, rising from the dense red band of the base toward the vast field of indigo blue. In this central section, raking light defines the fine incised lines crossing the surface to meet small yellow and crimson accents suspended at the sides. Layered glazes of acrylic and oil reveal a precise, physical execution. The gaze ultimately returns to the bottom edge, where the paint wraps around the stretcher, reminding us that we are in the presence of an unframed three-dimensional object.
