CUSTODES — Context Study

The artwork "CUSTODES" unveils itself through light, delineating its architectural forms and contrasting palette. At the center, two monolithic structures rise, defined by sharp angles and a dark chromatic range that shifts from near-black grey to a deep blue-green. These silhouettes emerge from a reddish, earthy base, suggesting underlying terrain or a lower stratum. Above this base, a vast, bright orange field extends, creating an intermediary horizon that lends surprising luminosity to the composition. In the upper section, a lighter horizontal band, with pale sky-blue and greenish tones, establishes visual calm before culminating in a narrow dark strip that closes the space. The layering of acrylic and oil imparts a restrained materiality to each surface, allowing the tension between blocks and color fields to emerge without excessive dramatization. Part of the EMERSIO series, this work organizes these elements into a balance that invites introspective observation on the relationship between forms and their containing space.
