STRATA X — SIGNUM — Context Study

In STRATA X — SIGNUM, Maurizio Valch constructs spatial depth from the tension between its compositional elements. A field of deep blue, layered with acrylic and oil on canvas, acts as a dense, textured background. Upon this foundation, two incised white lines diagonally traverse the composition, creating divisions and guiding the eye across the plane. Four rectangular forms in crimson, with a material surface, appear to float suspended within this space, visually anchoring themselves to the lines or the fields these lines define. This vertical artwork articulates an abstract territory where the background's stillness is punctuated by the tactile presence of red blocks, emerging as signs within a visual stratification.
