Metaphysical Landscape Painting
Architectural Structures of Territory and Presence
Metaphysical landscape painting explores territory not simply as scenery, but as a field where presence, structure and consciousness emerge.
Within this context, the work can also be understood as architectural minimal abstract painting, where spatial structures, horizons and monolithic forms organize silent territories of perception.
Unlike traditional landscape painting, which focuses on the visual depiction of nature, metaphysical landscape investigates the deeper relationship between human perception and the architecture of the earth itself. The landscape becomes not an image to be described, but a spatial condition where meaning and presence take form.
Maurizio Valch’s work develops this approach through what he defines as Architectural Metaphysical Abstraction. His paintings construct territories where geological structures, spatial order and symbolic elements interact to create fields of tension, silence and emergence.
Horizons organize space.
Monolithic forms establish anchors of presence.
Incised stairways introduce the scale of the individual entering the territory.
Rather than narrating stories, these landscapes structure perception. They present the viewer with territories that feel both ancient and newly emerging — spaces where consciousness appears to arise from the continuity of the earth.
Through this approach, metaphysical landscape painting becomes a way of mapping the inner architecture of human presence within the structure of the world.
